Iraq commanded by Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. Resulting in a call for help from the Kuwaiti rulers.
America and other international aid came to their help.
Before Hussein's troops withdrew, they set fire the oil wells of Kuwait which burnt for weeks, with the smoke blackening out the sky.
The resulting smoke clouds covered much of Asia and Europe blocking out the sun.
The effect of the smoke blocking approximately a third of world, blocking the sun, the moon and the stars for one third of the earths revolution, over several days and in places weeks.
The eagle in midheaven could be American Media on the air waves, or even an aircraft pilot commenting from the bible by the inspiration of God.

Note: while researching this topic online, I also found references which alleges that American Special Forces set the Kuwaiti Oil Fields alight and blamed it on retreating Iraqi soldiers (including admission by US Special Forces soldiers). Also America took the bids to put out the fires and was first to secure these contracts from Kuwait, even though British Companies were ready to act straight away but could not because of the American contracts. It took American contractors weeks to get organised and arrive on site. The amount of damage to the environment, and the economic losses from the oil burnt was far more than necessary because of Greed in the name of Capitalism.
